Introduction

What is A is for Animal?

A is for Animal is an illustrated children‘s poster for the Little Seedling, a children's store in Ann Arbor, Michigan selling toys, children's clothes, diapers, strollers, and any other childcare needs.

The Little Seedling's mission is to provide children with items that are both functional and aesthetic. I designed a poster for children intended to bring the alphabet to life, making the alphabet more enjoyable to learn and something that kids would enjoy having hang in their room.

Color

The subject

The desired poster was to include the letters of the alphabet and an object corresponding to each letter, so the letters and the object were combined into one and animals were used as the subject. The subject was chosen based on topics popular among children of any gender.

I illustrated the animals to be flat and simple in appearance to avoid distracting away from the letter the animal represents. Each animal was designed to be playful, kind, and cute with the hopes of appealing to both children and their parents

Color

Pastels

The color palette was chosen to be colorful and pastel oriented to appeal to kids and reflect color schemes commonly used in nurseries and children's rooms. The Little Seedling's color palette of green and brown was also incorporated to reflect brand identity.
