What is SHEI?

SHEI Magazine is a fashion and pop culture publication with a bi-annual print magazine and a monthly digital magazine.

In working with SHEI, I designed several editorial spreads for both their print and digital publications. The designs were to reflect both the theme of the photoshoot and the theme of the issue. Here are examples of the various spreads I completed throughout my time there.

Fashion for Everybody

I explored the lack of inclusivity in fashion for gender non-conforming individuals for my application to the magazine. The design reflects the ambiguity of gender using pink and blue and a shifting shape that reflects the human body, regardless of gender.

Contour

I explored the way we adapt to the contours of our own environment for Terraform, an issue on our relationship to land, and how we can shape and be shaped by the Earth. The design accentuates the physical outlines created by land.

Last of Kin

I explored the invisible strings tying us to our ancestry, intangibly shaping who we are, for Legacy, an issue on the complex relationship we hold to the past and challenging the power it has to shape our future. The design emphasizes the binding connection to our past.

Shadows

For Lunar, an issue on our draw to the moon, I explored the moon as a response to the sun, taking its form in shadow and representing that we too are a contradiction of shadow and light. The design creates balance between shadow and light and emphasizes contrast.

Assuming Space

I explored the way in which we exist in a space for Tableau, an issue on how we represent ourselves and perceive and capture everything else: a moment, an image, an object, a person, a place. The design brings attention to the presence, or lack thereof, of space.
